About
Karen, or Renn as her college friends call her and how she signs her art is a self taught artist inspired by her mom and her grandmother Florence. She currently lives in Franklin, MA but grew up Sherborn, MA. She is the mother of three grown kids; Alexie, Tristan, and Liv and 5 grandfurbabies.
Renn works in oil medium using both heavy brush strokes and fun play with the artist knife. She loves to create new colours and textures to bring life to her paintings.
During Covid, Renn moved back to the states from Canada and took her art hobby into a business. She also works as a personal trainer and holistic nutritionist.
Renn is passionate about helping others with finding their joy and gratitude as she believes these are key to helping anxiety and depression which she has fought her whole life. After surviving cancer, she began to look at life differently and hopes to inspire others. In all of her paintings there is a hidden heart for you to find. If you can find the heart, you can find the joy and gratitude in your own life.
Artist's Story
When I was a little girl driving with my mom, she would ask me how many colors I saw in the rock walls so prevalent in New England. She would describe the different colors she saw and I would squint to try and see them. Eventually I didn’t need to squint to see them and I began to notice all the many colors in trees, bark, water, clouds- you name it. This was my introduction to being an artist.
My mom and my grandmother were both self taught artists. I learned watercolor from my grandmother when I was in college. I wanted to learn oil but she said I had to learn watercolor first since it was more difficult. Unfortunately, she passed away before she could teach me oils and so I gave up painting. Years later after my kids were all in school, I decided to try again. Over the years I've started and stopped many times due to life events. Now that my kids are all grown up and out of the nest, I’ve been able to devote regular time to my art.Â
